Protection and Care
1. Cool it Down:
Cast iron doesn’t like surprises, especially of the temperature variety. Leave your hot pot to cool down completely before you clean it.
2. Wash it Up:
Clean your pot after every use. The best way to clean your Dutch oven is with warm water, a gentle liquid dishwashing soap and a soft sponge or brush, for example made from silicone or nylon. Your Dutch oven is also dishwasher friendly if you’d prefer.
3. Don’t Scratch It:
Avoid using steel wool or other abrasive cleaning products on your Dutch oven as they may damage the enamel coating of your cookware.
4. Don’t Soak It Overnight:
Best not to soak your Dutch oven for long periods of time (i.e overnight). If food has stuck to the base of the pot or stained the exterior, make a paste using a teaspoon of baking soda and a splash of white vinegar. Rub in the paste with a soft cloth or sponge and repeat as required.
5. Dry Me Please:
Use a towel to hand-dry your Dutch Oven and lid before storage, to prevent water marks or rust formation.
6. Be Nice: Cast iron cookware is designed to be very tough and sturdy, but do be kind and try not to drop or knock your Dutch oven.
The lifetime warranty covers faulty workmanship and/or materials when the product is used in normal, domestic conditions and in accordance with the care and use instructions provided.
It does not cover normal wear and tear, commercial use or misuse of the product.
The enamel coating will change colour over time as it absorbs colours from your cooking.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I wash my Dutch Oven?
Although enameled cast iron is dishwasher safe, hand washing with warm soapy water and a nylon scrub brush is recommended to preserve the cookware's original appearance. Citrus juices and citrus-based cleaners (including some dishwasher detergents) should not be used, as they can dull the exterior gloss.
Is the enamel coating tested for food-safety?
Yes, the Crumble Dutch Oven has SGS certification's for:
FDA - American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Compliance Policy Guides Sec.545.400 (CPG 7117.06) and Sec. 545.450 (CPG 7117.07) Pottery(Ceramics)-Leachable cadmium and lead
Heat Test - Up to 350 Degrees without any cracks or discoloration
CAL65 - 65(Superior Court of the State of California – County of San Francisco Case No. 938430) - Leachable Lead and Cadmium
How should I store my Dutch oven?
The Crumble Dutch Oven should be wiped dried before storing in your cupboard. Alternatively you can leave it on our stove top.
Do I need to pre-season my Crumble cookware?
Definitely no! Your Crumble Dutch Oven had been coated in quality enamel already so there is no need to per-season your oven.
What utensils can I use with my Dutch oven?
You can use your Crumble Silicone Spoon or a Wooden Spoon. Please do not use steel as it would damage the enamel coating.
I dropped my Dutch Oven, Is it covered by the Lifetime Guarantee??
Unfortunately not. While our cast iron is extremely durable for all sorts of cooking tasks, the enamel coating is made from glass.
This means it can crack or chip if it’s dropped or knocked.
This type of damage isn’t covered by our Lifetime Guarantee and we can’t accept dropped items for repair.
My Dutch Oven is rusting, is this normal?
On all cast iron products small areas of rust can sometimes occur around the rim. If you spot rust, it could be that your cast iron piece wasn’t thoroughly dried after washing, has been sitting in a damp area like a draining board or the dishwasher, or possibly the grey enamel base coat may have chipped. To remove rust, clean the area with a nylon sponge and washing up liquid, then thoroughly dry the pan. Once it’s dry, rub a small amount of sunflower or vegetable oil into the affected area to create a seal and prevent any rust from reappearing.
